The installation of APP bitumen membrane consists of several key steps. Below is a general outline of the procedure:
Surface Preparation
Thoroughly clean and dry the surface designated for membrane application, removing all debris, dust, and loose materials. Level any uneven areas or imperfections.
Primer Application
Apply a bitumen primer to the surface to enhance the membrane’s adhesion to the substrate.
Membrane Installation
Unroll and position the membrane onto the prepared surface. Ensure end laps overlap by at least 3 inches and side laps by a minimum of 4 inches. Trim the membrane to size and roll it back to prepare for adhesive application.
Adhesive Application
Heat the membrane and substrate using a propane torch. Apply adhesive to the substrate with a trowel or spray equipment. Roll the membrane back into place and press it firmly onto the adhesive.
Seaming
Fuse the overlapping seams of adjacent membrane sheets with a propane torch to activate the adhesive and create a strong, waterproof bond.
Edge Finishing
Secure the membrane’s edges with a termination bar or flashing to achieve a watertight seal around the roof’s perimeter.
